THE GIFT OF WILDFLOWERS

One of the greatest joys of  my morning walks along the country roads of Columbia county has been to see the ever changing vista of wild flowers. As the days go by, some die off and others are born anew.

No doubt, some of these beauties began as carefully attended garden plants.  Then their seeds were carried off by birds or the wind and settled in elsewhere to be watered only by rain and to grow without human coaxing intervention–living according to their own botanical clocks, going dormant during the winter, then prodded awake by the heat and sun to bloom for the birds and the bees and quite incidentally for our pleasure.
