THE DARLING BUDS OF NOVEMBER

Yesterday I was meandering through the Shakespeare garden in Central Park and did a double take.  Was I really seeing rosebuds in New York City on November 17th?  Very beautiful, but sad evidence of global warming…

  1. It’s funny, because it is surely lovely / sad evidence of how the world is becoming a hothouse, with less than amiable results for our descendants. But two days before I had seen much the same thing in a garden in my co-op complex, although one of the rosebuds (which looks like the same hardy late-blooming variety) had some blackening at the tips of its closed petals. I thought, “The Last Rose of Summer? The Last Rose of Mid-November?” and went away, astonished. Things are odd all over, obviously.
