As readers of this blog already know, I love mosses. I am astonished at how they grow and survive on rocks, creating patterns that rival the best of abstract art.
There seems to be an endless variety of mosses, some of which I found growing on a park wall along Fifth Avenue, just north of the Metropolitan Museum. Many of the mosses formed little hillocks, reminding me of topographical maps or aerial views of a forest.
A touch of the primeval in the big city.
